I spoke with a very well regarded foreign correspondent the other day, and he asked to go into the museum when he was recently in Syria - he shares my issues with much of the propaganda being disseminated about cultural property by both sides. You'll be please to hear that he saw for himself that many of the exhibits are now packed away (he told me where they are, but agreed not to disclose the information at my request, as that would be putting a bull's eye on the location for looters). Not all big items were packed away, but the smaller, and so easily lootable, ones are in safe storage.
